wondering thoughts

As i have finally had time to relax from a long 36 hours i took to some time to think and let my brain wonder. One of those things that puzzled my wondering thoughts is the need for a revaluation of the values in my life.

poof!

Hopefully the reevaluation of my values will be the first step in becoming a better man!

within a second

A lot can happen in a day, but many more things can happen in a second...
The part that intrigues me the most is that the majority of people will miss the little things when they happen!

An
ice cream truck in the distance and some gangster music blasting from the a car at the intersection that I was at. The sun from a distance finally disappearing and the bright moon beginning to take its place. This all brings me back to a memory from almost a year ago. However; this isn't the time to sit back and reminisce all the other times where car problems stopped me from reaching my destinations. This is a time to get back on my feet and come up with a way to keep moving forward.

The Rock in My Eye

Everyone gets the occasional pebble in their eye and with little effort that pebble can be taken out. However, sometimes there is that one pebble that feels like a huge rock and will make someone actually miserable until they get it out.

Today, while at work all of the sudden I felt like I had a whole brick in my right eye. It was very annoying and I usually don't make a big deal about little things like that, but this time it was different. I rubbed and rubbed my eye to try to get the rock out, but nothing happened. It was very frustrating having that in my eye. As soon as I got a chance I looked in the mirror and saw that there was a small particle right on top of my pupil. I had never gotten anything on my pupil. The times before I had things in my eyes they have always been really close to the eyelid and they were really easy to get out. I started thinking about how I could have gotten something like that in my eye. Then, I had a quick flashback of how almost bug crash landed into my eye and I assumed the worst. I thought that a bug had stung me on my eye and it just took a while for the pain to kick in. I took another look at the mirror to see my eye and then what first resembled like a small pebble now looked like a stinger. Ahhhh! I thought I would lose my vision or have my eye fall off and have to wear an eye patch for the rest of my life! Just imagine that…Not good! Anyways, I washed my eye and used everything in the first aid kit for eyes, but nothing worked! I was being very negative and was very irritated at everything and everyone. I lost hope and went back to work. A few minutes later I rubbed my eye and Bamm!!! All of the sudden my eye felt normal again. What a relief!

It is crazy to look back at the situation and realize everything that was going on. When I had whatever it was in my eye I was being very pessimistic and negative. The particle in my eye might have been slightly bigger than anything I ever had in the past, but it was still something very minor which I shouldn’t have made a big deal about. It was like I was pushed into a new and unknown situation and panicked. I wish I would have stayed calm and saved myself a few grey hairs. However, I’m glad this happened because I learned a valuable lesson. From now on I am going to remain calm in all situations, but especially tough ones.

This will save many future regrets!

Second Saturday

Sacramento is a mysterious city full of culture and well kept secrets. It is also some sort of a cultural mine. It may not be as beautiful as other cities on the outside, but when looking in the right places diamonds can be found. One of those diamonds is the Second Saturday Art Walk or festival. Like its name, it takes place on the second Saturday of each month at nighttime from like 6pm to 10pm. During the art walk there are many vendors and art galleries that are open to the public for free, as well as live music, local artists, free food and many unusual sights. There are tons of people from all kinds of backgrounds that go out and walk around midtown to enjoy the atmosphere.

I have been lucky enough to attend Second Saturday twice, once in January and then in June, and both times have been very fun. The first I went it was in the middle of the winter so it was cold thus not too many people were out. However, the second time I went it was right in the beginning of the summer and there were people everywhere. It gave me a Vegas like feeling, but without the casinos of course. As I mentally prepared myself to go to midtown for second Saturday I was planning on just relaxing and chatting with some of my friends, but it turned out to be a little different. I did get to relax and chat with my friends, but there was something about the environment that gave us tons of energy and things to laugh about… Turns out that a camera and a live DJ brought out the B-Boys in us.

This”performance” was all unplanned. After we got out of some restaurant as we were walking there was a DJ booth with some fun music playing, so we started dancing. At first it was just four of us enjoying the music, then as we kept dancing a crowd started gathering and then it turned it this performance. Hahahah! That was so much fun…

There was also a mini carnival con Savor Sudamericano. Yummm!

As far as second Saturday goes it has to be one of the best things Sacramento has to offer. It is mos def something that I will be attending more often. The next Second Saturday will be on July 11 so mark your calendars.

Just Do It

The famous Nike slogan means more than those three simple words. Just doing something means not over thinking situations and seamlessly doing what instinct would do instead of ourselves. Just doing things can get people into situations that they would have never imagined. Good or Bad? Well, whether it’s punching someone rude or letting some emotions out, you be the judge… However, just doing things gives off a relieving feeling to the person. From now on I'm going to try and Just Do It!
In this case I decided to list as many things as possible that I want to do and to enjoy within summer vacation.

1. Write a song and poem
2. Learn something new each day
3. Read a good book
4. Sell things that I don’t use
5. Donate old clothing to DI
6. Go to the Tower Theater
7. Make a kite that can fly
8. Go to the Castle in Jackson, CA
9. Find out my family history
10. Eliminate all the clutter in my life
11. Be happy
12. Become successful
13. Learn to cook
14. Learn to play an instrument
15. Learn about botany
16. Watch a good movie
17. Take a 50 mile bike ride
18. Learn how to drive a motorcycle
19. Make someone else’s dream come true
20. Become an entrepreneur
21. Pay my bills on time
22. Start using coupons
23. Drive less and use public transportation more often
24. Live each day to its fullest
25. Spontaneously fly to New York City
26. Say yes to everything, with a few exceptions.
27. Learn how to wakeboard and snowboard
28. Change the oil myself
29. Take my mom out on a fun day
30. Prepare breakfast on a Sunday
31. Find my inner strength
32. Find real friends

All of these things I’m going to try to accomplish them as soon as possible… So, suggestions and/or help would be great!

A Thousand Words

There isn’t anything more exciting than looking at awesome photography. Photography is an art and a small hobby of mine that I want to expand and gain more knowledge about. I love looking at photos and then later finding out stories behind them. Whether it would be people, places, or things there is just something about photos that intrigues me.

There have been a few places online that have fascinated me and grabbed my attention immediately when looking at their photographs. Today I came across Thomas Hawk's photography.

Thomas Hawk is a photographer that I know very little about, but I love his photos. I happened to run into this slideshow of Photos taken at night and I fell in love with it right away. I looked through many of those pictures, but then I got hungry so I stopped. Later on I did some research on this person and I found out that he is huge! Thomas Hawk has thousands of pictures published online.
You can find out more about Thomas Hawk here.

When Down

As much as I would like to be, I am not made of steel. I too, have days when am feeling down and even though I may try to not show it, deep down inside there is usually something bothering me. This happens occasionally, it seems to happen when I have absolutely nothing to do. For example, since I won't have anything to do or worry about my mind will start wondering off and creating alternate realities that just kill me.*

A couple of years ago there was a time where I was just feeling horrible and I do not remember why. One of my friends was trying to cheer me up and this person said something I will never forget. This person told me to “KEEP MY HEAD UP”. At the time I didn’t realize how strong those few words are and only after so many years I realize how much those words mean. Keeping your head up is the best remedy for anything. If people have positive outlooks on good or bad situations the only outcome of the situation can be positive.

At the time not realizing this, ‘Keep Ya Head Up” is a song by 2Pac. It must have came out sometime back in the 90's when music was good and not like that bunch of crap that is always playing on the radio.

This is by far one of my favorite songs and I listen to it all of the time. Anyone can relate to this not just poor people in the ghetto. Everyone has their own struggles and have times when they’re feeling down. Luckily I do not have to face half of the struggles that 2Pac mentions in this song.

There are some things that 2Pac says in this song that are just too real and when I hear them I try to see how I can apply them to my daily life.

“If you fall, stand tall and comeback for more…” – 2pac
--- This means a lot to me. As simple as it may sound getting up after a fall may be one the toughest things for people to do.

“Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless” – 2pac
--- Not trying to sound old, but it seems that people now days only care about what others think and not what they think about themselves. People need to be more positive about themselves and worry less about what others think. “Dying inside…” I go through this too. Sometimes it is better to open up and let compressed feelings out slowly rather than pretending there is nothing wrong and one day just blowing up of all the pain inside. Aside from all selfishness, the only person that truly matters is YOU. If someone can’t function properly alone, how would they expect to be able to work in a team or in the real world?

Although, out of hundreds of songs 2Pac wrote there are only a few positive ones, we need more rappers like 2Pac who inspire people to do better and to push forward when times are tough. Honestly, the few inspiring songs that I’ve listened from 2Pac are enough for me and generations to come to keep our heads up and be to be mentally strong.

*There are two feelings that are extreme opposites of each other that I may mention. One is "killing me" and the other is "melting". Thinking about them they sound very alike, but they have a completely different feeling to them. It's a simple as this: "Melting" is good and "killing" is bad.
